Advising FAQ's
When can I see an advisor?
The Office of Student Affairs is open Mondays through Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. As advisors are often in previously scheduled meetings or appointments, students are strongly encouraged to make an appointment before coming in.
How often should I see an advisor?
Freshmen are required to see an advisor each term before registration. Students on probation are also required to see an advisor before registration. Upperclassmen in good academic standing are encouraged to see an advisor at least once a year in order to stay current on potential curricular changes. Students approaching graduation should see an advisor the first term of their senior year to make sure they are on track to fulfill all requirements.
How do I know when to register for classes for the next term?
Registration is based on total credit hours earned. The Early Registration Schedule can be found at the OneStop website.
How do I find out what classes are offered?
A complete schedule of classes can be found on the OneStop website.
How do I get into a closed class?
First, continue to watch for openings in the course through OneStop. Many people drop classes in the first week and space becomes available. Additionally, send the professor an email in advance outlining your situation and why you want/need the class. Be succinct and polite. Go to the first class meeting; talk to the instructor in person (preferably after the class) about signing an add-slip (hyperlink: to forms section – not created yet) to add the course. Take the signed add slip to the OneStop center in University Pavilion and you will be added to the course.
How do I add or drop/withdraw from a class?
During open web registration, students can add and drop classes online through OneStop. After open web registration ends, students need to consult the Registrar's Academic Calendar for applicable deadlines. Contact your advisor to understand the implications of withdrawing from a class. To understand how withdrawing from a class can impact your financial aid, contact or visit the OneStop office.
