Health Sciences

Admission Requirements

The degree in health sciences is open to all students who meet admission requirements for the College of Allied Health Sciences and the Health Sciences Program. Students entering from high school must meet the following criteria:

  • 4 units of college preparatory English
  • 3 units of college-preparatory mathematics
  • 3 units of science (1 Chemistry, and 1 Biology/Physics/Astronomy)
  • 2 units of social science
  • 2 units of foreign language
  • 2 additional units of any of the above

Because of the required college coursework in science and math, successful completion of two years of high school algebra, one year of high school geometry, one year of high school chemistry and one year of high school biology is recommended. For students planning on entering the Physiologic Science concentration, pre-calculus is recommended.

Students must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA and have the following test scores: ACT: 22 Math/23 Combined and/or SAT: 520 Math/1050 Combined.

Before entering upper division coursework, the HLSC Upper Level Progression Form (Microsoft EXCEL) must be completed and submitted during spring term prior to starting the junior year. Admission by Transfer:
On-campus transfer students must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have successfully completed at least one of the four required science sequences (Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, First-Year Chemistry, or College Physics) with no grade below a C-, and have completed at least 1 course in any other science sequence.

Off-campus transfer students must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA at their previous institution(s) and have equivalent transfer credit for one of the above science sequences.
