BS in Advanced Medical Imaging Technology

Admission Requirements

High School Students:

Any individual who has met the entrance requirements for the University of Cincinnati and is enrolled as a full-time or part-time student at the university is eligible to declare Advanced Medical Imaging Technology as their major.

Incoming freshmen who graduated from high school in 1986 or after must have completed the following high school units:

  • 4 units of college-preparatory English
  • 3 units of college-preparatory mathematics
  • Math ACT score of 21 and or SAT score of 480 required
  • 3 units of science
        • 1 unit chemistry
        • 1 unit biology, physics, Or anatomy
  • 2 units of social science
  • 2 units of foreign language
  • 2 additional units of any of the above
  • 2.75 cumulative GPA and 2.75 at most recent institution
  • Meet all other minimum university and college requirements

Students who have not completed these requirements may be required to complete them at the university as additional credit hours which will not apply toward degree requirements. 

Transfer Applicants:
Transfer students from other accredited colleges or universities may apply for admission. Only courses in which the applicant earned a C- or better and which were completed within 10 years of the date of application will be considered for transfer credit.

Those declaring Advanced Medical Imaging Technology as their major are not guaranteed admission to the professional curriculum. Completion of the professional curriculum is necessary for graduation, board examination eligibility, and eventual employment.

Students interested in transferring to the Advanced Medical Imaging Technology Program should contact the academic advising offices of the College of Allied Health Sciences. 

Secondary Admissions Process:
Upon successful completion of all freshman- and sophomore-year requirements, students may enter the professional curriculum of the program (junior and senior years). This is a competitive process. Not all students will be accepted into the professional curriculum.
 
Program faculty consider the quality of the application, overall GPA, math and science GPA and an interview/project in the selection process. 

Students wishing to apply must have a 2.8 overall GPA or higher. No grades below C- in math or the sciences are accepted.

Students may request application materials for the clinical portion of the program by contacting the advanced medical imaging technology program office at (513) 558-2018.  Applications are due Jan. 1 of the sophomore year (the year before the student wishes to enter the professional curriculum).

Due to the standards set forth by national accrediting agencies, professional curriculum students attend classes forfor 12 consecutive quarters. Before entering this phase of the program, students select two of the following medical imaging specialties:

  • Nuclear Medicine Technology, a medical specialty that uses stable and radioactive isotopes in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. 
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging, a medical specialty that uses magnetic fields and their properties to diagnose disease and analyze human anatomy.
  • Sonography (Ultrasound) Imaging a medical specialty that uses sound waves to diagnose disease and analyze human anatomy.
