Certificate of Supervised Practice in Dietetics (SPD)

The SPD Certificate program requires completion of a minimum of 1200 hours.  Regardless of whether the SPD intern has been accepted for local or distance supervised practice, he or she completes 4 semester credit hours of orientation and supervised practice preparation in Cincinnati during May and early June.  Once that is complete, interns move on to their supervised practice rotation sites. This is comprised of 32 semester credit hours starting in summer semester for 5 weeks followed by fall and spring semester.

Sites include practice in clinical nutrition, food service management, community/public health, and specialty areas of choice. The SPD also offers interns the opportunity to work in one of our two declared areas of concentration: pediatrics or long term care.

In addition to the supervised practice, projects are assigned that the intern is expected to complete outside of the supervised practice hours.  These projects and assignments need to be complete before commencement, which is the last Saturday in April.
