School of Social Work
Welcome Message
Cincinnati is a great place to learn to be a social worker. The city and surrounding region is rich with established social service agencies and an active community of practitioners ready to welcome the next generation of social workers. As a social work student, you will be able to take advantage of many opportunities for learning and leadership.
The University of Cincinnati is set in the middle of a great city, offering a diversity of people, cultural events, and civic institutions. While our students take advantage of the urban setting, using it as a laboratory for learning, they also look beyond the city’s limits.
From observing city or community councils, to writing letters on issues of importance, to lobbying state legislators in Columbus, our students learn ways to make their voices heard. From volunteering at a local food pantry, to raising money to support housing programs in El Salvador, our students learn ways to be of service to the community and the world.
Although the social work programs enroll about 500 students each year, students find it a close-knit community. Undergraduate social work class sizes are small. Graduate classes are taught by faculty members who have years of practice as social workers and who readily serve and role models and mentors for students. Together with an active alumni association, the School’s faculty and students develop bonds for professional and personal growth that last a life-time.
And you don’t even have to be in Cincinnati to be part of the School. The new Master of Health Administration, offered as a distance education program, uses the most advanced teaching technologies to offer an outstanding educational experience to professional seeking ways to enhance their knowledge and skills for career advancement.
We invite you to explore our website and learn about our programs. We hope that you will see the commitment and enthusiasm we have for our professions and for our programs. If we can provide more information or answer questions, please contact us at the School at socialworkweb@uc.edu.
Sincerely,
Ruth Anne Van Loon
