On behalf of the faculty and students from the College of Allied Health Sciences, Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders, I cordially invite you, your fellow faculty, staff, and students to the 2nd Annual Aphasia Awareness event on Friday June 9, 2017.
Aphasia is a communication disorder that commonly occurs after a stroke and affects over 2 million people in the United States alone—yet many people have no idea what aphasia is. Many students within the Academic Health campus will come into direct contact with people who have aphasia during their educational and professional careers. This event will help increase awareness of aphasia and offer tips on how to interact with people who have aphasia.
Mr. Maldonado brings a unique perspective to living with aphasia for those who are bilingual. He shares his story (in both English and Spanish) on the Million Hearts website: https://millionhearts.hhs.gov/news-media/media/videos.html
