Endowed Scholarships
The College of Allied Health Sciences is proud to offer a wide range of endowed scholarships that support students across our academic programs and professional pathways. Made possible through the generosity of alumni, faculty, families, foundations, and community partners, these funds reflect a lasting commitment to access, excellence, and student success in health and human services.
Our endowed scholarships honor meaningful legacies, recognize achievement, and invest in future professionals at critical points in their educational journey. Together, they represent a shared belief in the power of education to strengthen communities, advance knowledge, and improve lives—now and for generations to come.
Established in 2023 by Brian Driscoll. Brian received his BS in Health Education with Emphasis in Athletic training from the University of Cincinnati and recently joined the University of Cincinnati Foundation Board of Trustees. The purpose of the Advancement in Athletic Training Student Scholarship is to recruit the top students to the Master’s Athletic Training Program (“Program”), as determined by the Program’s Admissions Committee.
Established in 2024 by siblings Tom and Gerry Denterlein. Both are graduates from the University of Cincinnati and the preference of the fund is to awarded to a first generation student as an incoming freshman.
Established in 1997 by The Bahmann Foundation honoring the legacy of Laura Belle and Emma Leah Bahmann to alleviate the effects of hearing loss to help others in the future. Provides support for Doctor of Audiology students in their 1st and 2nd years.
Established in 2015 by Harold M. Thomas in honor of Beth Bextermueller, retired program coordinator. Provides assistance for scholarships, stipend, and/or clinical experience support (including travel for professional or clinical experience) for Rehabilitation Science students, candidates of the Doctoral Physical Therapy program, and/or Health Sciences students in the College AHS.
Established in 2018 by Carol Walker to honor her husband, Bill, UC’s head athletic trainer from 1975 to 2007. Primary support of professional development and secondary support of scholarship of students enrolled in the University of Cincinnati Master of Science Athletic Training program presently located in the college. Eligible students applying must be students in good standing in the Master of Science in Athletic Training program, have a GPA of at least 3.5 and through their involvement in projects, beyond required class work and internship, show their commitment to career development and to the principles of the athletic training profession. Preference shall be given to final year students.
Established in 2022 by the family of Dr. Carney Sotto in recognition of her dedication to the BS Speech-Language Hearing Sciences program, this fund provides assistance to students in that program with demonstrated financial need and in good academic standing.
Established in August 2022 by Carol Leslie. The purpose of this scholarship is to support graduate students in the Speech Language Pathology. Recipients should have demonstrated financial need and in good academic standing.
Established in 2012 from the Charlotte E. Smith Trust. Supports students majoring in Nutrition or Dietetics.
Established in 2016 by the Ferrier family in honor their daughter, Christina, who was an exceptional SLP graduate student and avid community volunteer.
Established in 2016 by Timothy B. and Terri A. Hollenkamp, a SLP alumna and owner of REHAB on the Run and Rehab Resources, as well as Scott and Tina Whalen, along with matching funds from UC Health. Awarded to incoming CAHS students entering the professional phase of their studies.
Established in 2018 by the Kelchner family to find and support future leaders in CSD. This fund reflects their value of strong, principled leadership regardless of the organization. Recipient(s) must be enrolled in a Communication Sciences Disorders (CSD) program focusing on Clinical Speech-Language Pathology (e.g. medical or educational focus) within the College. Recipient(s) must demonstrate an interest or insight into leadership and overcoming personal obstacles. Recipient(s) must have demonstrated limited economic means and can be of any race, ethnicity, nationality, ancestry, sex or other protected class.
Established in 2024 by Debra Spearman and the purpose of this gift is to support SLP students who have demonstrated a financial need.
Established in 2016 by an anonymous donor in honor of Dr. Jeannette C. Taylor. Provides tuition assistance for students enrolled in the Masters of Social Work program in the School of Social work.
Established in 2008 by various donors in honor of Dr. Ernest Weiler, a Professor Emeritus, upon his death. Provides tuition assistance awards to students in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Available funds dependent on annual contributions.
Established in 2018 by Harold and Eugenia Thomas to support students pursing their Doctor of Physical Therapy. Scholarship shall be renewable for an additional 2 years, provided fund availability and student eligibility.
Established in 2017 by Dr. Cathy Guenthner, a long time supporter of UC PT students and faculty. Provides tuition assistance for a student(s) enrolled or accepted into the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. If there are no eligible students, the scholarship would be open to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Health Services Program.
Established in 2022 by Scott D. and Tina F. Whalen with a purpose to support entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students, with the intent to enhance recruitment and retention of first-year students in the program. Recipient(s) will be awarded based on their service contributions and leadership activities throughout their undergraduate years. Preference shall be given to outstanding Pre-Physical Therapy graduates from UC’s Health Sciences Program (HLSC).
Established by Jules White in 1983 to provide scholarships for students in Speech and Theater Arts.
Established in 2022 by Richard Krach. The purpose of this gift is to establish the Gregory Paul Jacoby Scholarship Fund for speech Language Pathology Students. To support students in SLP program with a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need, preference to non-traditional students.
This scholarship was established by James K. Ellis, OD in 1984. Dr. Ellis established this scholarship to be awarded to a select second year MSAT student who demonstrates the standards, ideals, and professionalism of Athletic Training and who reflects the integrity, loyalty, dedication, and commitment to service that Dr. Ellis has exemplified in his professional career. This scholarship offers an opportunity for committed athletic training students to obtain financial assistance for their education.
Established in December of 2021 by Mary Kay Brown and Steven Brown. This scholarship goes to a junior or senior in the College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS) School of Social Work with demonstrated financial need.
Established in 2012 by Jean Sepate and Peter E. Djuric, Pharm.D. Provides tuition assistance awards to students who may use the scholarship for such things as tuition, books, fees, room and/or board, and relevant costs related to the progression towards the MSW degree.
Established in 2023 by Jennifer’s mother, Ms. Pamela Wheatley, this scholarship is in loving memory of the 2012 MSW graduate. Provides tuition assistance awards to students enrolled in the MSW program who are from a diverse background, based on factors: first-generation students, students with financial need as determined by the University of Cincinnati, or students who have encountered or overcome substantial educational or economic obstacles. The scholarship shall be awarded to a new recipient each year. This scholarship will be awarded based on the faculty nominations of eligible Master of Social Work students.
Established by the Best Point Education and Behavioral Health to a student in field placement at that agency. The scholarship generally goes to a first-year student and is renewable for the second year.
This fund was established in 1988 in honor of Julia Glore. Julia was a student in our program who lost her life in a tragic accident during her second year in the program. Her family and friends endowed this memorial fund to provide an award for a student who, like Julia, came to the SLP program after working in another field, and excelled during graduate school – especially in working with and caring about clients.
Established in 2017 by Judith Marlowe. This scholarship provides scholarships to graduate students enrolled in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders program in Speech Language Pathology with preference given to students enrolled in the Distance Learning Program and those who are actively engaged in meaningful volunteer activity within their community, exhibit a strong work ethic, and are committed to excellence in pursuit of their career in speech language pathology.
Established in 2008 by Katie’s family and friends in her memory after a tragic car accident. Katie was an alumna who earned a BS & MS in SLP. She was a single mom who exemplified determination and resilience in her pursuit of an education. This award continues her spirit in support of others. Provides tuition assistance to students in the College of Allied Health Sciences’ Dept. of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Preference given to a single parent.
Nancy Sarah Kean graduated from UC (University of Cincinnati) with both a BSW (1983) and MSW (1989). She was a tireless advocate for patients and families focusing on those affected by neurologically acquired disabilities (stroke, closed head injury, spinal cord injuries, etc). She served as the social worker on the rehab team at the adult physical rehabilitation outpatient (PROS) in the Cincinnati TriHealth system before establishing the social work role on the inpatient physical rehabilitation team at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Candidates must be currently enrolled in the MSW program as a part-time student and a UC undergrad graduate.
Established in 2016 by an anonymous donor and the Gerber Foundation with matching funds from UC Health. Provides tuition assistance for recipient(s) enrolled in any program in the Nutritional Sciences Department of the College.
Established in 2009 by Grace Falciglia, Doris Cambruzzi, Jane Garvin and Ellen Rember as leaders in the field of nutritional science. Recognizes graduate and undergraduate students for their (a) academic achievement, (b) critical thinking skills, (c) initiative and motivation, (d) professionalism, and (e) potential for leadership/success in the field of food and nutrition. Available funds dependent on annual contributions.
Established in November 2008 by Scott D. and Tina F. Whalen and supported by many alumni. Provides tuition assistance for a student(s) enrolled in the rehabilitation sciences. Available funds dependent on annual contributions.
Established in 2011 by Dr. Robert Keith and Kathleen Thornton-Keith to support audiology graduate students. Encourage and support quality scholarship by University of Cincinnati AuD and PhD students in audiology. Provide financial support of tuition and fees to doctoral students. Provide scholarship and/or research assistant awards to students who show promise as basic or applied (clinical) investigators.
Established in 2018 by Rose L. Smith, DPT and Donald R. Smith who spent their careers in higher education and social services. Provides tuition assistance awards to students enrolled as incoming third-year students in the Health Sciences undergraduate program. The award is renewable for an additional year, provided fund availability and student eligibility.

This award is given to a senior (4th year) in the BSW program at The University of Cincinnati School of Social Work who demonstrates outstanding student leadership at the University of Cincinnati School of Social Work and in the community. The Ruth A. Clinton Excellence in Social Work Award recognizes both the wonderful practice of a UC School of Social Work alumni that begins in direct service, but come to require advocacy and social activism to fully meet client needs. The award provides a way to recognize students who develop practice skills both classroom and field settings to meet many levels of client and community need. This opportunity focuses on impact achieved through direct practice, both generalist and specialist, and macro practice in areas of community organization, advocacy, and social activism to emphasize the social work activist legacy of championing reform and social justice.
Established in 2003, this award from the Rosevear Foundation honors Ruth F. Rosevear, whose research passion was to improve the health and wellbeing of mothers and their infants and children through healthy food and nutrition. The goal of this award is to stimulate research and scholarship in maternal, infant and child health.
Established in 1990 by the Bloom Family in memory of Sheri An Bloom, a senior in SLP who was tragically killed in an automobile accident with her father. Her pursuit to further her education was to continue to graduate school following graduation. This award creates a legacy to support others in that dream. Available funds dependent on annual contributions.
Established in 1973 by the Southwestern Ohio Speech and Hearing Association. Provides scholarships to needy and worthy undergraduate students majoring in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology.
Established in 2005 by Carole Donnelly, Ph.D. in honor of her husband Dr. Kenneth Donnelly after his death. Dr. Donnelly was a longtime CSD faculty member and was instrumental in many innovations and partnerships. This award continues his legacy of supporting students and the profession. Provides support the audiology clinics and clinical education of graduate students in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the college.

This scholarship was established in 2009 to honor Dr. Ken “Doc” Stephens, in recognition of his 39 years as University of Cincinnati Team Physician and his service to the University of Cincinnati Athletic Training program. Through his commitment to the health and well-being of those under his care and the passionate, compassionate, yet humble administration of his duties as Team Physician, Dr. Stephens demonstrated deep respect for the athletes, coaches, and athletic trainers. His commitment to the education of the athletic training staff and students helped develop one of the most respected sports medicine programs in the United States. Awards from this scholarship will be given to a select second year MSAT student who demonstrates the personal qualities that were so well demonstrated by Dr. Stephens throughout his long career.
Established in 2024 by Debra R. Zevallos, the Zevallos Family Master of Health Administration Scholarship Fund provides tuition assistance to an enrolled student in the Master of Health Administration Program at the University of Cincinnati.
