Cincinnati STRIDE (Stuttering, Thriving, Resilient, Inclusive, Determined, Empowered)
An intensive treatment program for children/teens who stutter.
What is Cincinnati STRIDE?
Previously known as Fluency Friday, Cincinnati STRIDE is a one-day workshop for students who stutter (ages 7 through 12th grade) and their parents/caregivers. In 2025, the workshop name changed from Fluency Friday to Cincinnati STRIDE to better reflect the program's goals and participants' experiences throughout the day. STRIDE stands for Stuttering, Thriving, Resilient, Inclusive, Determined and Empowered. STRIDE provides a safe, supportive environment for individuals to come together, share personal stories, learn from each other, and have fun. Participants receive support from professionals, graduate students, their families, and their peers. They learn that they are not alone on their journey with stuttering.
Both students who stutter and their caregivers are invited to participate in the program. Students participate in group therapy sessions as well as engage in team-building and confidence-building activities. They are paired with University of Cincinnati speech-language pathology graduate student clinicians, who are supervised by licensed speech-language pathologists. Caregivers learn from experts in the field of stuttering, participate in panel discussions, and connect with other caregivers in meaningful ways.
The program was started by Diane Games over 25 years ago and has developed into a collaborative community effort with faculty from the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Children's Hospital, Hamilton County ESC, and Pathways Forward Center for Stuttering.
