Meet Rhea Floyd

Rhea is originally from Canton, Ohio, and attended the University of Akron, earning a B.A. in Communication and an M.A. in Public Administration and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies. Rhea completed a year of service as an AmeriCorps VISTA member, serving in Spokane, Washington. She then continued her commitment to public service and nonprofits, coordinating a statewide AmeriCorps VISTA program across Kentucky. Afterward, she began her official advising career at NKU. Rhea has a passion in helping people navigate complex systems and ensuring they are supported throughout that process. Rhea hopes to help students make the best decision for themselves and their careers along their journey at UC. 

As a first-generation student, Rhea understands the importance of having an advisor to help guide the higher education process. During her first year in college, she realized that she wanted to change her major but was too shy to seek guidance. The college system was confusing and overwhelming. It took her 5 and a half years to obtain her bachelor's due to changing schools, programs, and not understanding how transfer credits are evaluated. Because of her challenges, she has enjoyed being an academic advisor so she can prevent others from experiencing the same fate. As an academic advisor, Rhea tries to help students understand the higher education system so that they can make informed decisions about their career path.

My favorite line as of now is from the great Beyoncé Knowles Carter's " Formation single - "I see it, I work hard, I grind 'til I own it." This line is me. When I have my mind set on a goal, I am going to work really hard to achieve that goal.

I really enjoy the mountains. I like the green space you get with the mountains and the various seasons as you climb higher or lower. 

I am definitely a morning person. I naturally wake up once a speck of dawn hits my eyelids. As soon as dusk begins, my eyelids naturally close too!
